FEKO Student Competition （FEKO学生竞赛）

The FEKO Student Competition is organised annually by the FEKO team in support of engineering education.
The competition aims to promote innovative academic use of FEKO. Any original FEKO simulation work may be submitted for the competition.

Eligibility


Any under-graduate or post-graduate student at a recognizededucational institution, working on a project in EM engineering andmaking use of FEKO, may enter. Students who would like to start using FEKO in order to enter, are welcome to contact us.



Prizes

Student Prize:
The winning student will have a choice between the following prizes up to the value of US$2000:

• A laptop computer of the winner's choice (specifications dependent on availability at the end of the competition).

OR

• Travel expenses to attend an international EM engineering conference of the winner's choice.

Supervisor Prize:
The winning student's supervisor will receive an online gift voucher to the value of US$400.

Application Procedure

• Please complete the online entry form to enter.
• Compile an entry that documents your work (for example write a short report, put together an article or create a presentation).
• Submit the report before or on 28 September 2012, either as attachment to your entry form, or, if you have already applied online, by sending the report to feko_student_competition@emss.co.za.

Evaluation Criteria


The complexity of the EM problem studied will not be the majorconsideration for judgement. Reports are evaluated with respect to thefollowing criteria:

• Clear definition of the EM problem
• Quality of FEKO models and proper usage of solution options
• Presentation of the results
• Verification of results (i.e. comparison with measurements and/or results from other numerical tools)
• Interpretation of results
• Overall quality of the report

Winner 2011

• 2011: Joan Gemio Valero from the Antenna and Microwave Systems Group at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain. Honourable mention was made of Miguel Sossouhounto from the Royal Military Academy in Brussels, Belgium.

• 2010: Christopher Thajudeen from the Center for Advanced Communications, College of Engineering, Villanova Universityin Pennsylvania, USA. Honourable mention was made of Jacob Adams fromthe University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Illinois, USA.
• 2009: Simone Ledda from the Electronic and Telecommunications Department, Faculty of Engineering, University of Florence, Italy.Honourable mention was made of Markus Lehner (Duale HochschuleBaden-Württemberg Ravensburg and EADS Military Air Systems [trainingcompany], Germany), Bennie Jacobs (University of Pretoria, South Africa)and Gideon Wiid (University of Stellenbosch, South Africa).
• 2008: Markus Birk, Stephan Werker and Jens Holzapfel from the High Frequency Laboratory at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences. Special mention awards were made to Shaun Walker (University ofKansas-Missouri City, USA) and Yijun Zhou (Ohio State University, USA).
• 2007: Brad Kramer from Ohio State University,USA. Special mention awards were presented to Kichul Kim (University ofColorado, Boulder, USA), Gideon Wiid (University of Stellenbosch, SouthAfrica) and Taeyoung Yang (Virginia Tech, USA).
• 2006: Michael Buck from Dept. Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Colorado at Boulder,USA.The Educational Institute Prize has been awarded to Prof JimBreakall (Antenna & Radio Engineering Lab), Pennsylvania StateUniversity, USA.
• 2005: S. J. Marais from The University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
• 2004: Laura Ollino and Luca Manetta from Politecnico di Torino, Italy.
• 2003: Lester Low from Kent University, England.
